Product Description

Curt Manufacturing Class II Receiver feature WeatherTite construction, which prevents rusting from the inside out by sealing the main body of the hitch. The receiver tube has an open back end to allow for easy cleaning and for dirt and moisture to pass through and not get trapped as is common with other brands of hitches. All CURT hitches come with mounting hardware and installation instructions. CURT is the only hitch company in the industry that mechanically de-scales all of their hitches before applying a thick powder coat finish, which is baked on for a high-gloss, smooth surface. CURT trailer hitches are simply the most attractive, most durable and toughest hitch on the market.

52005 Pontiac Vibe - Fits Perfectly!!
By Karefree31
Amazon, for some reason, says that the Curt hitch #12221 will also work for the base Pontiac Vibe but Curt's website says NO. After emailing them, they said that 12221 is ONLY for the GT model. And they, of course, were right. The 12221 would have hung down lower to accommodate the GT's lower body styling.

As soon as I received the hitch I took the bolts outside to try them out as a lot of people say you need to WD-40 or scrub out the holes. Maybe if you live somewhere with snow and salt. My car has mainly been in Florida and I could hand screw them all in just fine. Install was super easy. Dad and I each took a side and he tightened them as far as he could. We then drove to O'Reilly's and borrowed their torque wrench. I'm 3 days into a 10 day cross-country drive and the hitch has been amazing. Fits right under the car.

4Trouble with install on a 2008 Vibe Non-GT version
By Andrew
I bought this Curt 12234 trailer hitch because I read that it was a bolt-on application for my 2008 Pontiac (Non-GT) and the hitch would be tucked nice and close to the bumper. After much cleaning of the weld-nuts on the frame of the car the unit bolted on perfectly to all but 1 of the bolt holes. It was a rearmost bolt hole. I loosened all 3 other bolts and even with the hitch moving freely left to right there was not enough clearance to install the bolt into the rearmost hole. To get the thing to install i had to use a drill to lengthen the bolt hole long ways (so basically on the most driver side side) with a drill bit. Even doing so I felt a lot of resistance when bolting the unit in as the threads bit into the part of the hitch that I had drilled just wide enough to get it threading. Once installed the unit does look perfect and barely makes contact with the lowest point of the bumper (non-gt version). My experience could just be freak occurance but my recommendation is that everybody start all four bolt before cranking any bolts down past 2 or 3 turns. I am just posting this on here so that anyone in my situation does not think they are crazy and spend a half hour wiggling the hitch left and right (with a hammer) like i did. I would give this unit five stars but I feel that by not giving any tolerance for slight defects in frame manufacturing they made this 30 minute install into a 2 hour install.

5Does what it says.
By John
I searched for hours trying to pinpoint a hitch receiver for my 2008 Pontiac Vibe. Reading countless reviews on several different ones (A huge thank you to everyone that takes the time to write one) I decided to try this one. 2 other reviews said they had to spend 30-45 min. drilling holes for this to fit their vehicle, I spent 5 min. One of the holes had a paint run in it and caused the bolt to not line up properly. 5 min. with a reamer tool and it was on the car. I recommend 2 people just to ease the installation process but 1 is sufficient.

Only shipping notes were that it was early ( always a plus) and the ball mount had a spot where the two rubbed during shipping. Understandable as far as I care.
