4It's not perfect, but it's perfect.
By Glenn E. May
Well, where to start?

I have been reading the reviews listed on the Master Zero Tilt Ball Mount. I own this hitch, and have for 2 years now. I also have attached to it the Master 3 ball interchangeable set. I am going to attempt to help clarify some people's impressions of it.

This is a light / medium duty hitch. The below list is my trailers, and which I tow with it.

With Master Hitch
6'x12'x5' Enclosed
5'x9'x2' Enclosed
4'x8' Open
8'x23' Open
Jayco 1206 Pop-up Camper
14' Aluminum Boat
15' fiberglass Boat

With specialty Hitches.
25' Enclosed car trailer
25' Enclosed Ultralight Airplane trailer
35' Camper

Now. to break this down. Obviously, I tow a fair amount. probably more than most casual folks do. I have 2 vehicles which I tow with. a 2005 Ford Expedition, and a 2004 Ford F350drw. I have used this hitch in both vehicles, repeatedly and with the above trail ers repeatedly. I have even gone as far as to town the 25' Ultralight airplane trailer with it.

It works. bottom line. I have a combination of this, and the Master triple ball set. It works awesome for swapping trailers as often as we do.

Now, for the bad. yes. It's a light / medium use hitch. States that there is a 350lb tongue weight 3500lb tow rating. It can be difficult to adjust if you have the tongue weight too high. It is noisy (There is a moving part or two)

All in all, it's not for everything. If you only have a trailer or two, then I would say it is probably a waste of money. if you have multiple as I do, then I would say that it's ideal. If you DO go for it. Go ahead and add the Master 3 ball set to go with it. The combination means you can tow nearly anything within the hitches limits without question.

So This gets a very high rating for versatility and usefulness. Not so high for capacity. but they don't ad vertise that.

Hopefully this clears up some of the animosity on the hitch, and hopefully will allow for those who can use it to buy it and those that need something else to buy that as well. I never liked wasting money.

3Beware - can't do middle range!
By Paul R. Zimmer
It isn't obvious from the description, but this device can only do about 2" drop to 7" drop and 2" rise to 7" rise - it cannot do anything between +2" and -2"!

3Not Advisable for Vehicles with a Low Hitch Mount
By Brad L. Bodie
The Master Lock Adjustable Height Zero Tilt Ball Mount works as advertised as a versatile mount that allows for a wide range of trailer and hitch mount combinations. HOWEVER... its design leaves a significant portion of the assembly projecting below the centerline of the hitch receiver. This is not a problem with many SUVs, pickup trucks, etc. when the hitch assembly is in or above the rear bumper and the overall ride height of the vehicle is well above the ground. If your hitch is installed below the rear bumper (in my case with a Hidden Hitch unit installed in a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country van) the hitch receiver resides relatively close to the ground -- even with the towing vehicle empty. The use of this Master Lock ball mount will reduce the ground clearance further, even when it is adjusted as high as it will go. I found that the combination of this ball mount with a loaded van and/or significant tongue weight from the trailer will push the rear of the vehicle downw ard to the point where there are only a few inches of clearance between the large nut at the end of the Master Lock adjustment assembly and the road. The unit will drag the ground when trying to enter even a modestly steep driveway, when passing over a speed bump, or attempting to drive over a rounded curb driveway entrance. In one instance I had to detach the trailer in the street, completely unload all of the cargo in the towing van, and then reconnect the trailer before I could pull the trailer into a driveway with a modest uphill grade. (Even with the van empty the Master Lock assembly dragged the ground and left a long scrape mark on the driveway!)

While generally a good design, the versatility and usefulness of this ball mount can be greatly diminished when used with some passenger automobile or van hitch combinations that result in a low mount that is close to the street. Air shocks or some way of elevating the rear of this type of vehicle might help, but t he overall configuration of the towing vehicle and hitch assembly must be taken into account when considering the use of this hitch.
